TEACHING
AS A TEACHER,
I share with my students the history of freedom, equality, and democracy, and I continue to grow as a teacher and human being by listening to them as they make sense of that new knowledge in their own way. I emphasize the connections that structured and continue to structure our world, empowering students to see and to think critically about the human relationships embodied in the objects and ideas around them. I highlight the great diversity of ways in which human beings have related to one another, cultivating a sense of history and refusing to forget that another world remains possible. I have completed comprehensive examinations in the teaching fields of Caribbean, Latin American, Atlantic, and World history, and I have also taught European and United States history.
